You probably don’t know Stephany Folsom’s name off the top of your head today but give it a few years and it might be instantly recognizable. The screenwriter has had a banner few years contributing to “Thor: Ragnarok,” co-writing Pixar’s critically acclaimed blockbuster “Toy Story 4,” tackling the first two episodes of Amazon’s secretive “The Lord of the Rings” episodes and spearheading her own series, “Paper Girls,” also set for Prime Video. In-person, the first thing you notice about Folsom is her infectious laugh and it dominates our conversation on the latest episode of the Four Quadrant podcast.
If you’ve always had a lot of questions about how Pixar was able to pull off the fourth installment of an American classic so elegantly, Folsom has answers. From the revelation to Forky’s transformation from a “one joke” character to full-fledged Pixar icon or the difficulty of nailing Bo Peep and Woody’s reunion, Folsom is here to enlighten you. She also does her best to not avoid breaking a “Lord of the Rings” NDA while still explaining how she was brought on to the project and her concern over giving reverence to Peter Jackson‘s Oscar-winning series. Eventually, it becomes quite obvious that Folsom is a major creative star on the rise in Hollywood and fresh blood is always a good thing.
