We’ve had our eyes on Chris Morris’ suicide bomber satire “Four Lions” for some time — as fans of Morris’ UK TV work like “The Day Today” and “Brass Eye,” we know that there are few comedians more fearless than him working today. The reviews out of Sundance were very strong, the early clip that premiered around that time was extremely funny, and we even like the poster (which debuted at Empire last week)
The good news is, the official trailer has now debuted, and it’s even better. There’s at least half a dozen belly laughs in there (our favorite probably being the opening), and it demonstrates exactly what we hoped; that Morris has made an Ealing comedy for the post-9/11 age. We can only begin to imagine the outrage that’ll ensue on the film’s release, from both the right and from the Islamic community, and it should be almost as much fun as the film itself. It’s released on May 7th in the UK, but there’s still no word on a U.S. pick up, unfortunately. However, the film is playing the SXSW Film Festival later this week (on Saturday March 20), so hopefully that’s about to change.
