Trailer For J.J. Abrams' 'Super 8' Finally Unveiled

Get it while it’s hot, you know this will be pulled down momentarily. What is “Super 8”? It’s J.J. Abram’s ’70s, Steven Spielberg-inspired secret new film that’s also being produced by the latter, super director (we saw it this morning and said it had a “Close Encounters Of The Third Kind” vibe, which it does, but with a contemporary J.J Abrams-like sheen).

If this trailer does go down, don’t forget, it will run in front of “Iron Man 2” this weekend in theaters. There’s no release date yet, but “Mission Impossible IV” did just vacate Paramount’s now open May 27, memorial day weekend slot. Maybe something for J.J.? “Super 8” is after all a Paramount film (which is surprising considering Spielberg is producing and he had a falling out with that company and took his projects to Dreamworks) and the trailer does say, “next summer.” Apparently it’s in the $45-50 million dollar range and we gotta admit, despite this clip being shot off a camera phone, this looks impressive. Why the title “Super 8”? There’s speculation that there’s some kind of supernatural element involved here and children capture the mayhem on their Super-8 cameras. Kinda like filming stuff now on your camera phone and posting it to YouTube, only in the 1970s.
