‘The Killing Of A Sacred Deer’ Trailer With Colin Farrell

Last year’s “The Lobster” caught many people by surprise. The incredibly strange, but hilarious story about a man who hopes to find a romantic partner before he gets turned in a lobster garnered rave reviews and award season chatter. Now, the film’s star and director are joining forces again in the upcoming “The Killing of a Sacred Deer.”

In the new trailer, it’s clear that director Yorgos Lanthimos is going in a different direction for his new film. Gone is the whimsy of “The Lobster,” replaced by something decidedly darker in tone. “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” stars Colin Farrell as a charismatic surgeon whose life is beginning to fall apart. He is forced to make a sacrifice when the behavior of a teen that he has taken under his wing becomes sinister. It’s a terrific picture, and our Jessica Kiang adored it at the Cannes Film Festival where it premiered this spring. Here’s an excerpt from her review:

“The Killing of a Sacred Deer” is Lanthimos with the gloves off, and it makes the absurd, amazing “The Lobster” seem like a warm and cuddly experience by comparison. A film of clean hands, cold heart, and near-Satanic horror, it was garlanded with boos at its Cannes press screening and it is absolutely fucking brilliant.

Lanthimos, along with his frequent collaborator Efthymis Filippou, co-wrote the screenplay. Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe’s Element Pictures, among the producers for “The Lobster” and “Room,” is producing the film. Along with Farrell, the film stars Nicole Kidman, Barry Keoghan, Raffey Cassidy, Sunny Suljic, Bill Camp, and Alicia Silverstone. Yep, that Alicia Silverstone.

“The Killing of a Sacred Deer” opens on November 3rd via A24. The chilling song you’re hearing in the trailer is a version of Ellie Goulding‘s “Burn.”
