After the underwhelming and, frankly weird, first trailer for “The Snowman,” Universal has dropped another promo to get you hooked. It has been way too long since Tomas Alfredson’s last film, 2011’s “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” so anticipation is quite high for his newest feature. The film, starring Michael Fassbender as detective Harry Hole and Rebecca Ferguson as Katrine Brass, follows the two as they track down a serial killer. Here’s the official synopsis:
When an elite crime squad’s lead detective investigates the disappearance of a victim on the first snow of winter, he fears an elusive serial killer may be active again. With the help of a brilliant recruit, the cop must connect decades-old cold cases to the brutal new one if he hopes to outwit this unthinkable evil before the next snowfall.

While any movie based on a possible snowman-like serial killer gives off cheap B-movie vibes, there is no denying the pedigree that comes from both in front of and behind the camera. In addition to Fassbender and Ferguson, the film co-stars J.K. Simmons, Toby Jones, Chloe Sevigny, and Val Kilmer.
Additionally, Matthew Michael Carnahan (“The Kingdom”, “Lions for Lambs”), Hossein Amini (“Drive”, “The Two Faces of January”), and Alfredson adapted the script from Jo Nesbo’s bestselling novel, which The Independent called the “most ambitious of Nesbo’s crime novels”, so that’s something.
“The Snowman”opens on October 20th.
