Back in 2019, everything was lining up for filmmaker Travis Knight to catapult from his “Bumblebee” success to tackle the long-awaited film adaptation of the “Uncharted” video game franchise. But as happened quite a few times with that film, “Uncharted” was delayed and Knight had to depart the project. Since then, the filmmaker has been on the hunt for his next feature, and it appears that he’s found it at Netflix with “Uprising.”

According to Deadline, Travis Knight is set to direct the upcoming vampire thriller, “Uprising,” for Netflix. The film, which is based on the Raymond Villareal-penned book, “A People’s History of the Vampire Uprising,” tells the story of an epidemic that turns results in the creation of vampires and how that upends society as we know it. The novel follows multiple perspectives on the world-changing event from the POV of a cynical FBI agent, an audacious campaign manager, and a war veteran. “Uprising” comes from 21 Laps production company.
As mentioned, Knight is probably best known for his live-action feature directorial debut, “Bumblebee.” The ‘Transformers’ spinoff film from 2018 is often viewed (at least in this writer’s mind) as the best in the live-action franchise and a solid action blockbuster. However, before he worked on “Bumblebee,” Knight served as the CEO of Laika, an animated production company. During that time, he helmed the Oscar-nominated animated film, “Kubo and the Two Strings.”
It’s unclear when “Uprising” will begin production. The current draft of the script is written by Jeremy Slater, with previous drafts by Jay Basu and the duo of JD Payne and Patrick McKay. Hopefully, for Knight, this is a project that doesn’t linger in development for a while, as many are excited to see what he can do in his next live-action feature.
