“Social experiment” is a term that gets thrown around quite a bit in today’s media. Everything from dumb pranks on YouTube to Sacha Baron Cohen’s “Who is America?” gets labeled under the umbrella of social experiments. But truly, has the term never been more appropriate than with the upcoming Netflix series “Trigger Warning with Killer Mike.”

In the first trailer for the series, we learn all we need to know about ‘Trigger Warning.’ The series follows rapper Killer Mike (of Run the Jewels fame) as he tackles a new social issue each episode. However, this isn’t just some educational series. Instead, Killer Mike tackles each social issue and presents a solution, which ranges from interesting (educational porn about racism) to ludicrous (attempting to get the Crips to cash in on their image, a la the Hell’s Angels).
Cleary, there’s a healthy dose of satire at work in ‘Trigger Warning.’ Does Killer Mike think he can solve the economic issues of Black people with only spending money on Black dancers at a strip club? Obviously not. However, he uses his own unique brand of humor and insight to shed light on issues that many people that scroll through Netflix on a daily basis probably are never confronted with.
“Trigger Warning with Killer Mike” debuts on Netflix on January 18.
Here’s the series synopsis:
In the new six-episode Netflix original series, Grammy award-winning rapper and activist Killer Mike sets out to confront important social issues and misconceptions that impact the black community. Conducting a different social experiment in each episode — including only spending money in the black community for three days, helping the Crips cash in on its personal brand by launching a line of soda, rethinking public school’s approach to education, and more — Killer Mike puts forward powerful, controversial ideas to help reshape perception in America.
