While many have been happy unplugging their traditional cable to just stream stuff online, the way things are shaping up, it looks like we’ll just be spending that money anyway on a variety of streaming services. With Netflix leading the pack, and Amazon making some big strides, Hulu now wants their own corner for original programming.
And they may land a big get with "Love," a new show co-written, produced and possibly even directed by Judd Apatow. He’s teamed with writers Lesley Arfin ("Brooklyn Nine-Nne") and actor/writer Paul Rust (who will have a role in this project) for a series that will (shockingly) be "a character-based comedy revolving around relationships, romantic and otherwise, with one (very messed-up) couple in particular at the center." The talented "Community" star Gillian Jacobs has also been approached to star, Brent Forrester ("The Simpsons," "The Office") might be a co-showrunner but nothing is 100% locked down yet. [Vulture]
In Apatow-related news, he’s a producer on "Girls," and that show has just booked the resurgent Natasha Lyonne for a guest spot, playing a character named Rickey. That’s all the intel for now. [AV Club]
Lastly, Cuba Gooding Jr. has teamed with 20th Century Fox to develop a boxing comedy "set in a gym in a newly gentrified neighborhood where hardcore boxers, weekend warriors and soccer moms gather to practice." He won’t star and there’s no writer yet so this is probably a bit of a way off. [Deadline]
