As much as the day-long, roll-out announcement for the “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” soundtrack is hyper annoying, lame and sure to fatigue the very people who want to write about the release (not to mention a cheap way of milking promotion), the music is frankly the only thing that keeps us sort of mildly interested in the vampire franchise.
Even though the soundtracks are basically “That’s What I Call Indie Rock” greatest hits compilations for Wal-Mart, Alexandra Patsavas and her team at Chop Shop have managed to wrangle some great exclusive tracks for the series, with Thom Yorke’s “Hearing Damage” and Lykke Li’s “Possibility” from “Twilight: New Moon” being particular standouts.
From what we know of the soundtrack for ‘Eclipse’ so far, indie rockers are going to be par for the course this time around as well. Among the confirmed acts are hipster-approved bands such as Metric, The Black Keys, The Dead Weather (one of Jack White’s many non-White Stripes projects), Vampire Weekend (appropriately) and a team-up between Beck and Bat For Lashes. As was reported last week, author Stephenie Meyer’s favorite band Muse have also contributed a song, the ridiculously titled “Neutron Star Collision (Love is Forever)” to the soundtrack and it will also as single as well. And speaking of vampires and sucking, somehow third rate, one-hit wonder The Smiths/The Killers wannabes The Bravery snuck on to this as well.
Anyway, we’ll update this throughout the day as we have to time check out what’s been added. Again, this is super annoying. Worst idea ever, marketing guys.
