CBS All Access ain’t playing around with Jordan Peele’s “The Twilight Zone” reboot. Comedian/actor/filmmaker Seth Rogen is now set to join the plethora of actors continuing Rod Sterling’s classic show’s legacy.
Rogen joins the stellar cast: Tracy Morgan, Ike Barinholtz, John Cho, Lucinda Dryzek, Taissa Farmiga, Greg Kinnear, Luke Kirby, Sanaa Lathan, Kumail Nanjiani, Adam Scott, Rhea Seehorn, Allison Tolman, Jacob Tremblay, Jefferson White, Jonathan Whitesell, Jessica Williams, DeWanda Wise and Steven Yeun in the upcoming anthology series.

One assumes that, like the original, many of these episodes could serve as juicy starring vehicles for these great actors. Some of the most memorable episodes from the original series featured performers known primarily for inhabiting very different roles, such as the famously frightening William Shatner episode, “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet.”

This isn’t the first time the TV world has attempted to relaunch “The Twilight Zone.” CBS aired a new version of the series – which first ran for 80 episodes from 1959-1964 – in 1985, and a second attempt, featuring Forest Whitaker as the show’s spooky narrator, ran for 43 episodes on UPN from 2002-2003. This time around, the TV landscape (if we can still call it that) is a different being altogether, however. The most popular or acclaimed series don’t often get canceled these days (at least not in the ways shows used to be) but one thinks there has to be a bottom to this content barrel.
CBS All Access no doubt is counting on ‘Twilight Zone’ to be a huge hit. The network could certainly use another “Star Trek: Discovery” like property to draw in new subscribers for their streaming service. The strength of their brand is only going to grow more essential for networks as competition stiffens moving forward.
Rogen will reportedly appear in an episode written by Alex Rubens, who, like Peele and Rogan, originally comes from a comedy background. Streaming platforms are a great outlet for artists to stretch their legs and experiment with different forms right now. Rogen specifically shows no signs of slowing his project portfolio down. “Preacher,” which he writes and co-produces with his creative partner, Evan Goldberg on AMC will air its fourth season later this year. “Future Man,” just aired its second batch of episodes on Hulu and Amazon Studios is producing his upcoming comic book adaptation of Garth Ennis & Darick Robertson‘s “The Boys.”
“The Twilight Zone” will premiere on CBS All Access on April 1, 2019.
