'Twin Peaks,' 'Barry Lyndon,' Coming To Criterion

October is the season of tricks or treats, but for the folks at Criterion, they’ve only got the good stuff. The boutique label has unveiled their lineup for the year’s scariest month, and it’s pretty damn incredible.

Kicking things off is David Lynch‘s “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.” With the new series set to be wrapped by then, this will be the perfect way to continue uncovering the many mysteries packed into the show. The highlight of the bonus features is the previously released “The Missing Pieces,” which contains over 90 minutes of deleted scenes and alternate takes. Oh yeah, that’s not to mention that the film has been freshly restored in 4K.

The other massive October release for Criterion is Stanley Kubrick‘s terrific, droll “Barry Lyndon.” The epic film, which is now newly restored in 4K (and for anyone who saw it during its big screen run, you’ll know how gorgeous it looks) is coming loaded with bonus features including vintage interviews, new featurettes, a fresh documentary, and more. This is the must-have release of the month bar none.

Criterion is getting into the Halloween spirit with a few releases: first, there’s Olivier Assayas‘ divisive ghost story “Personal Shopper” starring Kristen Stewart which lands in a pretty bare bones release; Agnieszka Smoczyńska‘s mermaid flick and future cult fave “The Lure” arrives with some deleted scenes and short films; and Carl Theodor Dreyer‘s classic “Vampyr” has been re-upped into the collection.

Lastly, Orson Welles‘ “Othello” arrives in a massive release featuring a new restoration, the 1952 U.S. and 1955 European cuts, documentaries, vintage footage and much more.
