Sometimes passion projects are teased but never happen. And sometimes, if you’re lucky, these projects will eventually get made, even if it takes years to do so. That appears to be the case with Jamie Foxx and his long-in-development “Tyson” TV series, as we get an official announcement that it is going into active development.

According to a new press release, Jamie Foxx is set to star in and produce a limited series, “Tyson,” which is an authorized biographical drama series about the life and career of legendary boxer Mike Tyson. The series is set to be written by Colin Preston and will be directed by Antoine Fuqua, who is also an executive producer alongside Martin Scorsese. Yes, that’s a lot of names involved, but you have to admit, those are some pretty great names to be associated with any series.

As mentioned, this is a project that Jamie Foxx has been trying to get made for years. And it’s that aspect of the project that might be the biggest question mark, as well. Mike Tyson began his career at a young age and became a heavyweight champion of the world at the age of 20. From there, he has been in and out of boxing for the better part of four decades and is still a relevant public figure. But the interesting thing is that Jamie Foxx is 53-years-old and only one year younger than Mike Tyson is currently. So, it’ll be interesting to see how Foxx can age himself down to play someone decades younger. Maybe Scorsese can bring some of that “Irishman” tech with him?

“I have been looking to tell my story for quite some time,” said Tyson. “With the recent launch of Legends Only League and the excitement from fans following my return to the ring, now feels like the perfect moment. I look forward to collaborating with Martin, Antoine, Jamie, and the entire creative team to bring audiences a series that not only captures my professional and personal journey but also inspires and entertains.”

Obviously, it’s still early in the development, with Preston having written one pilot episode and still needing to write the rest of the series. But this is the first time “Tyson” has been more than a reported project and is actually an announced project. So, for those hoping to see Jamie Foxx get to bring his passion project to the screen, it looks like it’s happening.
