“BoJack Horseman” is a weird show. The animated series follows an anthropomorphic horse that is a down-on-his-luck actor from a popular sitcom. As strange as it is, it’s also pretty damn funny, and has consistently been one of Netflix’s best original series. Now, it looks like Amazon is going to get into the animated comedy game, and they’ve signed up the creative minds behind ‘BoJack’ to lead the way.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon Studios has signed ‘BoJack’ creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg and writer Kate Purdy to create a new animated series called “Undone.” The series follows Alma, who survives a near fatal car crash, but discovers that she has a way to explore time to find out the truth about her father’s death. While that doesn’t sound like the most hilarious premise ever, we have to trust that Bob-Waksberg and Purdy know what they’re doing.
Actress Rosa Salazar, seen in the upcoming “Alita: Battle Angel,” is going to lend her voice to the main character, Alma. Angelique Cabral, from “Life in Pieces,” will voice Alma’s younger sister. Artist Hisko Hulsing, who’s work was seen in the documentary “Montage of Heck,” will oversee production design for the series.
Previously, Amazon’s animated efforts were relegated to children’s shows. “Undone” marks their first attempt at an animated comedy series aimed at an older crowd, and who better to help lead the way than Bob-Waksberg? If ‘BoJack’ is any indication of what style he’s going to bring to Amazon, then it looks like the future is bright for animated comedies on the streaming platform.
Raphael Bob-Waksberg is a very busy man lately. While he’s listed as one of the writers on the upcoming “The Lego Movie Sequel,” he also has his hands in another animated series for Netflix, titled “Tuca and Bertie,” starring everyone’s favorite comedian from 2017, Tiffany Haddish.
