'The Unforgivable' Trailer: Sandra Bullock Can't Walk Free Of Her Violent Past

Sandra Bullock has starred in over fifty films in her career, but, if one can believe it, there hasn’t been a movie with her released since the 2018 Netflix thriller “Birdbox.” But, fear not, Bullock fans. The actress has three films set for releases over the next year, like the assassin thriller “Bullet Train” alongside Brad Pitt and the romantic adventure film “The Lost City Of D” with Channing Tatum.

First up, however, is something a little more hard-edged. “The Unforgivable,” based on the 2009 British TV mini-series “Unforgiven,” hits select theaters just before Thanksgiving and heads to Netflix a couple of weeks later. The new film stars Bullock as a woman recently released from prison who seeks to rebuild her life and find her sister.

Here’s the film’s official synopsis:

Released from prison after serving a sentence for a violent crime, Ruth Slater (Bullock) re-enters a society that refuses to forgive her past. Facing severe judgment from the place she once called home, her only hope for redemption is finding the estranged younger sister she was forced to leave behind.

Alongside Bullock, “The Unforgivable” also stars Viola Davis, Aisling Franciosi, Rob Morgan, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Jon BernthalRichard Thomas, Linda Emond, W. Earl Brown, and Emma Nelson round out the main cast.

“The Unforgivable” had languished in development hell for almost a decade before Bullock rescued the project through her production company, Fortis Films. She co-produces alongside Graham King, whose GK Films have been behind 2018’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and Martin Scorsese films like 2006’s “The Departed,” and German actress Veronica Ferres, through Construction Film GmbH.

German director Nora Findscheidt is behind the camera for “The Unforgivable.” It’s her second feature film after 2019’s “System Crasher,” which made waves after its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival that year.  Guillermo Navarro, best known for his work on films for Robert Rodriguez and Guillermo del Toro, is the film’s director of photography.
