Universal Remaking David Cronenberg's 'Videodrome'

In the continuing war by Hollywood on originality, Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to David Cronenberg’s 1983 sci-fi horror, “Videodrome.” The script for the remake in being written by the deplorable Ehren Kruger and will be produced by Kruger and partner Daniel Bobker. Kruger’s list of recent writ ting projects is downright comical, with some of the highlights being “Blood and Chocolate,” “The Skeleton Key,” “The Ring,” and the unforgettable “Reindeer Games.”

The original classic Cronenberg mindbender starred James Woods as a sleazy TV producer who begins to broadcast “Videodrome,” a series that depicts torture and murder that transfixes viewers.  It was one of the directors excellent but gruesome commentaries on the public fascination with violence. The remake will be modified as to modernize the concept and, according to Variety, it will “infuse it with the possibilities of nano-technology and blow it up into a large-scale sci-fi action thriller.”

Sounds great, now if they could just find a way to cast Shia LaBeouf as a guy vying for the affection of a gorgeous girl way out of his league it would be perfect. Kill us now.
