Vanessa Hudgens is running away from her "High School Musical" roots that made her name as fast she can. While she has lent her face to such tween-skewing fare as "Bandslam," "Beastly" and "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island," she's been just as eager to prove she's all grown up, appearing in "Sucker Punch" and signing on for movies like the gritty indie "Gimme Shelter," the serial killer flick "Frozen Ground" and of course, Harmony Korine's potentially amazeballs "Spring Breakers." And she continues to shake her wholesome Disney image.
The actress has confirmed on her website (via DigitalSpy because good lord, Hudgens' interwebs home has never crossed our browser history and never will) that she has joined Robert Rodriguez's eternally casting "Machete Kills" in the role of Cereza, which is the Spanish word for cherry. And that's all there is to know, really. Given the writer/director's operating style, it will probably be a quick wave at the camera before she's off screen again, but it's another name to put on what is going to be a very long credit scroll and tremendously crowded poster.
So just to recap, in addition to Hudgens, "Machete Kills" now stars Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Demián Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Zoe Saldana, Jessica Alba, Alexa Vega, Lady Gaga, Mel Gibson, William Sadler, the Avellan Twins and whoever else decides to swing by the set. No release date yet, but sometime in 2013 is pretty much guaranteed.
