What’s the next logical step for an actress that has garnered some acclaim for her role in the Emmy Award-winning series “The Crown?” If you said star opposite of The Rock and Jason Statham in a ‘Fast and Furious‘ spin-off film, then you win!
According to Variety, actress Vanessa Kirby, best known for her role of Princess Margaret on “The Crown,” is now signed on to star in “Hobbs and Shaw.” She’ll take the role of an MI-5 agent and Shaw’s sister. Shaw is, of course, the criminal mastermind played by Jason Statham in the ‘Fast and Furious’ films.
Fresh off the monster success of “Deadpool 2,” director David Leitch is attached to helm the action spectacle. The plot hasn’t been released, but one could assume that fast cars, punching, explosions, and muscle flexing will factor in heavily. The script is written by Chris Morgan, who is something of a Kevin Feige-esque mastermind of the whole ‘Fast and Furious’ series.
Since “The Crown” is moving on with a brand new cast, Kirby has been working on other projects, including a role in the upcoming “Mission: Impossible — Fallout.” So, it appears that Kirby is making a play to become a go-to actress for big action-heavy tentpole films.
“Hobbs and Shaw” is scheduled to hit theaters July 26, 2019.
