While she hasn’t been seen on the big screen since 2012’s movie-you-already-forgot-about “Safe House,” Vera Farmiga has a helluva 2013 lined up. This spring sees her raise a pyscho in the A&E series “Bates Motel,” while this summer she’ll continue to chill in the horror flick “The Conjuring.” And just as those two projects head to screens big and small, the actress is eager to get back on set.
Farmiga has joined the quickly mounting cast of “The Judge.” The picture stars Robert Downey Jr. as a high-flying lawyer who returns to his hometown to find his estranged father, Robert Duvall, accused of murder. Farmiga will play a waitress who has a history with RDJ’s character, which is probably shorthand for “love interest.” But that’s not all who’s on board. Usually, Billy Bob Thornton characters are to public order what Sacha Baron Cohen characters are to political correctness. So it is with some surprise that we see him diversify into making, rather than breaking, the law, as he signs up to play prosecutor in the legal dramedy while character chameleon Vincent D’Onofrio, of “Law & Order” fame, will play Downey’s brother. So yes, the cast is certainly taking on an eclectic shape.
