Though the discussion surrounding “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” is a bit disappointing, as the film largely failed to live up to fan expectations, as well as just being a not-so-great way to end George Lucas’ 40+ year Skywalker Saga. But one thing that has come out of that project is the rise of the film’s second-unit director Victoria Mahoney, the first woman and the first Person of Color to act as a director on a “Star Wars” project. And Mahoney is using that experience to transition into big-studio action film work with her next project, “Kill Them All.”
According to THR, Mahoney is in negotiations with Paramount to direct the upcoming feature, “Kill Them All,” based on the graphic novel of the same name. The film will tell the story of a betrayed woman looking for revenge, who teams up with a hard-drinking ex-police officer to take down a crime lord. Their plan leads them to a high-rise where they must go up level by level, killing everyone in their way before reaching the crime boss at the top.
As mentioned, Mahoney is probably best known for her work as the second-unit filmmaker on ‘Rise of Skywalker,’ but she’s also had quite a bit of experience working in the realm of TV. She’s helmed episodes of series such as “Power,” “I Am The Night,” “American Crime,” and “You.” Mahoney is also one of the directors working on Jordan Peele’s highly-anticipated HBO drama, “Lovecraft Country.” And she recently signed on to work with Ava DuVernay as the director of a sci-fi series titled “Dawn.”

As for “Kill Them All,” there’s no word on when this film might go into production or when it might hit theaters. But it appears that the film looks to really establish Mahoney as a tentpole filmmaker that isn’t afraid of working on action films or sci-fi blockbusters.
