While Vin Diesel shows his more sensitive side in the upcoming “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk,” let’s face it, his core audience generally prefers to watch him do ridiculously stupid stunts in high calorie blockbusters that don’t make you think too much. And “xXx: Return Of Xander Cage” should fit that bill quite nicely.
Whether or not people actually want another ‘xXx’ movie remains to be seen, but the ensemble seems to be crafted to appeal to every worldwide market possible, with Donnie Yen, Deepika Padukone, Toni Collette, Ruby Rose, Nina Dobrev, Tony Jaa, Samuel L. Jackson, Neymar Jr., and more among the cast. As for the movie, it’s directed by D.J. Caruso (“Disturbia,” “Eagle Eye“) and I can’t imagine the plot is of much importance except to build set pieces around which Diesel can do big, dumb things.
“xXx: Return Of Xander Cage” arrives on January 20, 2017. And it’s probably safe to say it won’t get an Oscar qualifying run.
