Vincent Gallo To Star In Daily Wire’s First Feature Film ‘Shut In’ From Director D.J. Caruso

Remember Vincent Gallo? After a steady career acting, Gallo really broke out in 1998 with the release of his indie darling, “Buffalo ‘66.” Five years later, he returned with another directorial effort, the controversial drama, “The Brown Bunny.” But since then, he’s been a bit under the radar, with smaller acting roles and lesser-known directorial gigs. Well, it appears the actor-filmmaker is set to star in his most high-profile film in a decade, “Shut In,” but the feature is already bound to be controversial, well before it hits theaters.

According to Deadline, Vincent Gallo is set to play one of the leads in the upcoming “Shut In,” from director D.J. Caruso. The film stars Rainey Qualley (sister of Margaret Qualley) as a young mother held captive with her two kids by her abusive ex (Jake Horowitz). The ex is joined by his drug-addicted accomplice (Gallo) in the crime. You might read that and think, “But why is any of this controversial?” Well, it’s when you look at who is producing the feature and you see how Gallo fits into all of this, that you begin to see why “Shut In” is set to be one of the most debated features coming in the next year or so.

You see, “Shut In” is poised to be the first original film released by The Daily Wire, the right-wing news website run by Ben Shapiro, which is hoping to become a major player in the Hollywood system. Not only that, the film is produced by Dallas Sonnier, the controversial executive, who has been at the center of quite a few scandals over the years. And the cherry on top of the controversy cake is the fact that Gallo has turned into a bit of a political pundit, with his appreciation of Donald Trump and his staunch Conservative views.

All that to say, “Shut In” isn’t just a thriller with a fairly uninspired plot featuring an actor who hasn’t had a major role in nearly a decade. It’s also going to be a political minefield of a project. Can’t wait to see what happens…*sigh*.
