Wally Pfister's 'Transcendence,' Alfonso Cuaron's 'Gravity' Go IMAX; 'Jupiter Ascending' & 'All You Need Is Kill' In 3D

nullIf want to know what the future holds at the multiplex, just look at Warner Bros. latest deal with IMAX. The two companies have shaken hands on 20 movies that will get the supersize treatment, but among the press release (via Nolan Fans) are some interesting tidbits about some very big high profile films thare are on the way.

First off, Christopher Nolan collaborator Wally Pfister's directorial debut "Transcendence" will be going the IMAX route, and while that doesn't seem like a shock, considering he utilized the format for "The Dark Knight" and "The Dark Knight Rises," it wasn't so long ago that he said the movie would be shooting on a regular format. “I’m planning on shooting my movie on film, 35mm anamorphic,” he told THR earlier this month. So a conversion job? Or is he quietly planning sequences in the 70mm format? With shooting kicking off next year, we'll see.

Meanwhile, Alfonso Cuaron's still undated, PG-13 rated, 3D "Gravity" will also go big. Again, it's not a surprise here — WB is essentially pegging almost all their blockbusters for the format — but it's another step in the right direction for the movie that is still under wraps. However, test screenings are continuing, and according to a source speaking to Hollywood Elsewhere, following a recent showing "VFX were 95% completed, 3D and color grading [are] still work in progress."

Speaking of 3D, it looks like you'll be needing glasses for Doug Liman's Tom Cruise-starring "All You Need Is Kill," the sequel "300: Rise Of An Empire," and most intriguingly The Wachowskis' upcoming "Jupiter Ascending." Again, just little morsels about each film, but in the case of the first two titles, it looks like those will be conversion jobs (unless we're mistaken), while we'll be curious to see if the tech-savvy sibling directors will shoot natively in the format.
