Disney’s Q1 FY20 Earnings Results Webcast happened today and this means Disney chief Bob Iger is revealing all kinds of little details. The biggest news in the Marvel world is the semi-definitive date of “WandaVision,” the ‘Avengers‘ spin-off series featuring Wanda Maximoff (Elisabeth Olsen) and the Vision (Paul Bettany). Recently, it was revealed that “WandaVision”—which also offered a first look this weekend at the Super Bowl, and was originally set for a spring 2021 release— was bumped up to 2020. Today, we have a release frame as Iger revealed that the series will hit Disney+ at the end of the year in December.
Moreover, Iger said there are additional Marvel Disney+ shows in development, beyond the three that were teased at the Super Bowl this weekend—”WandaVision,” “Falcon & The Winter Soldier” and “Loki.” “There are seven other Marvel series in various stages of development or pre-production,” Iger explained, in addition to the three aforementioned shows.
While eight shows have been announced in total—”The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “WandaVision,” “Loki,” “What If…?,” “Hawkeye,” “Ms. Marvel,” “Moon Knight,” and “She-Hulk“— seven more beyond the three that were teased at the Super Bowl would be ten shows total. What could those other two shows be? That’s anyone’s guess and let the speculation begin.
Meanwhile, “WandaVision”— rumored to find inspiration in the House Of M Scarlet Witch storyline where the character goes mad and is already taking on a dreamy sitcom vibe that likely plays out in the character’s mind— is directed by Matt Shakman (“Fargo” and “Game Of Thrones“), the head writer of the series is Jac Schaeffer who has already worked with Marvel and wrote “Black Widow.”

Marvel Studios’ “WandaVision” blends the style of classic sitcoms with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany)—two super-powered beings living their ideal suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems. The new series is directed by Matt Shakman; Jac Schaeffer is head writer. Debuts on Disney+ this year.
Aside from Olsen and Bettany, “WandaVision” will also co-star Teyonah Parris (Spike Lee’s “Chiraq“) and Kathryn Hahn, plus Kat Dennings and Randall Park will reprise their roles from the “Thor” and “Ant-Man” franchises respectively. Parris is the character to keep an eye on here, as she’ll be playing Monica Rambeau, the daughter of Maria Rambeau, who first appeared as the younger version of the character played by Akira Akbar 2019’s “Captain Marvel.” Monica Rambeau in the comics becomes a superhero in her own right, taking on many monikers including Photon, Captain Marvel and more.
Looks like “WandaVision” will definitely have a helping hand which makes sense given the show is said to lead into “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” which will also feature Elizabeth Olsen. Until then, be patient for “WandaVision,” because it’ll be a late end of year treat after Marvel is done with all their 2020 movies.
