Marvel Studios' 'WandaVision' Will Arrive On Disney+ In January

For the first time in a decade, the world is going to have one full year without a Marvel Studios production. That’s right, after months of speculation, Disney+ has confirmed that the only hope for new Marvel Studios content in 2020, “WandaVision,” is actually going to arrive on the streaming service in January.

According to a new teaser/date announcement, Marvel Studios has revealed “WandaVision,” the first series from the movie studio, will arrive on Disney+ on January 15, 2021. This is after most fans assumed the series would arrive in December when a Disney+ video included “WandaVision” in a montage of programs arriving before the end of the year. Well, that isn’t to be.

And honestly, if you set the nerd glasses aside (no offense, of course, as I’m a “four eyes” myself) and look at this from a business angle, there was really no other place for “WandaVision” to debut. November puts it smack dab in the way of “The Mandalorian,” which Disney+ wants to carry the streaming service through the fall. And with Pixar’s Soul” expected to drive business to the new platform for the holidays, the only logical place would be early 2021. And so, that’s where “WandaVision” lands.

As mentioned, this is the first Marvel Studios TV series to be released, though that wasn’t always the plan. If COVID-19 hadn’t halted production on “The Falcon & The Winter Soldier,” odds are we would have seen that debut in August. Now, that series is #2 in the lineup and probably won’t be premiering until Spring 2021, at the earliest. If that sounds far-fetched, remember that “WandaVision” is six episodes and will likely be released weekly. So, that means the finale won’t be until the end of February, pushing ‘Falcon’ until March, at the earliest.

So, there you have it. 2020 is a year without Marvel Studios. (No, “Agents of SHIELD” and “Helstrom” don’t count, as they were Marvel TV productions and even Kevin Feige doesn’t count them.) But with all this backlog of projects, it’s likely that barring another global tragedy, we’ll have plenty of MCU goodness for the next decade to come.
