He may have lost the Oscar and BAFTA, but MTV Movie and TV Awards voters made sure Chadwick Boseman was enshrined a winner. The “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” star took Best Performance in a Movie at the 2021 edition of the venerable Viacom awards event. Overall, the ceremony was dominated by Marvel Studios and Disney Plus as “WandaVision” took four honors including Best Show, Best Villian (Kathryn Hahn), Best Fight, and Best Performance in a Show (Elisabeth Olsen).
Best Movie, almost an afterthought this year, went to…Netflix’s “To All the Boys: Always and Forever.”
Hosted by Leslie Jones (who also took Best Comedic Performance – a complete coincidence of course), the show took place at the Palladium venue in Hollywood with a limited non-masked audience and no musical performances. Presenters and winners (clearly aware they won beforehand) were on hand or accepted virtually. Scarlett Johansson won the MTV Generation Award while Sacha Baron Cohen was awarded the Comedic Genius honor which he accepted as Borat, Ali G, Bruno, and himself. He also officially “canceled” himself.
The reality categories, of which there are many, will be revealed tomorrow night, Monday, May 17.
