'WandaVision' Still On Track For 2020 Debut Despite COVID-19 Delays

Just last week, it was revealed that the first major Disney+ original from Marvel Studios, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” has been pulled from the August release schedule and has yet to finish production due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And as we’ve seen with how Marvel Studios does business with its shared universe storytelling, a delay of one project starts a chain reaction that normally ends with everything shifting to accommodate. But maybe that’s not going to be the case this time, as another series, “WandaVision,” looks like it’s going to be released with no issues.

According to Deadline, in the report about ‘Falcon,’ it was revealed that “WandaVision,” which is scheduled for a December premiere, is likely going to still be on track for a 2020 debut. Given the uncertainty of when we might see “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” fans have to wonder if the Elizabeth Olsen-led series will be Marvel Studios’ first offering on Disney+?

“WandaVision” is expected to pick up soon after the events of “Avengers: Endgame,” with Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff dealing with the emotional fallout of losing five years of her life (she was one of the snapped-away heroes) and the loss of her love, Vision (Paul Bettany). And from the teases, it appears that we’ll be dealing with Wanda’s fractured mind as she uses her abilities to attempt to bring back Vision. It sounds trippy as hell and a fun change of pace for a studio that has relied on a tried and true formula for more than a decade now.

But just as was discussed with the delay of ‘Falcon,’ the same questions arise with the non-delay of “WandaVision.” At this point, it’s unclear if maybe Marvel Studios is convinced that ‘Falcon’ will finish production soon enough and episodes can begin to air in the fall, before Olsen’s series. Or maybe, the fact that “WandaVision” and ‘Falcon’ don’t seem to be closely related will allow for Marvel to flip-flop the schedule a bit. If that’s the case, then perhaps ‘Falcon’ is looking at an early 2021 release?

As we’ve said a million times already when dealing with release dates, production schedules, and just about anything else COVID-19 related, it’s damn near impossible trying to predict the future. But regardless, it would seem as if the silver lining for Marvel fans is that at least one project will get released before the end of the year.
