Studios have become incredibly aware of how reviews — or more specifically, a Rotten Tomatoes score — can make or break their films. #WarOfThePlanetOfTheApes is the bleakest summer blockbuster I can recall. Suicide, torture, whipping, crying monkeys. It's unrelenting.
