It seems after the double whammy of “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” and “Suicide Squad,” Warner Bros. is taking a moment of honest reflection about how these films turned out. Earlier this month, DC Films honcho Geoff Johns admitted the studio was trying to course correct with “Justice League” and offer a little more light in the bleak world conjured by Zack Snyder, and studio execs are continuing to be candid that their superhero movies could be better.
There’s “a little room for improvement” Time Warner chairman-CEO Jeff Bewkes said at the Goldman Sachs’ Communacopia investor conference. And the studio head once again confirmed their commitment to changing to the tone.
“The DC Comics characters … have a little more lightness in them than maybe what you saw in those movies, so we’re thinking about that,” he said,
However, Bewkes also said there were some silver linings, and that the studio was happy overall with the fan reception to Ben Affleck‘s Batman and Gal Gadot‘s Wonder Woman. And while he admits “we can do a little better on the creative,” in a broader sense, the honcho seems to be satisfied with how their DC Films launched this year.
So, it seems WB are listening, and it’ll be interesting to see how they implement the feedback that has come so far. And more crucially, Zack Snyder‘s future involvement in more DC Films fare (or not) will be a big indicator of what creative direction they choose to go in over the next few years. [Variety]
