While action star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is currently working on director Michael Bay’s dark comedy “Pain and Gain” in Miami, Florida, he’s had no shortage of movement on future projects. He’ll be getting oiled up for helmer Brett Ratner’s “Hercules,” will be suiting up as a black market mercenary in the comic adaptation “Ciudad,” and it’s no surprise he’ll be returning for further mega franchise adventures in “Journey 3” and “Fast Six.” Johnson is no proving he’s no slouch, signing up for yet another action-heavy role.
Much like “Ciudad,” Johnson’s new project “Lore” for Warner Brothers will be stepping into the comic world created by T.P. Louise and Ashley Wood , which is set in a world once full of mythical creatures – ones which have long since been banished and held by a secret society of Shepherds. It’s being described as "’Men in Black’ with mythological creatures," which seems pretty accurate, and we’re guessing is a big reason why screenwriters Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott inspired such a heavy bidding war between major studios like Warner Bros., Paramount, and Sony Pictures. Especially with Johnson attached, this has all the makings of a more adult-oriented 'Journey' franchise, especially since Warner Bros. closed the deal for the underlying rights to the source material. Can you say, “Sequels?”
It should bring some reassurance to fans that co-creator Wood is on board in an executive producer capacity, as that may prove that some of the little-known comic's integrity will be held intact. As for Johnson, who also has this June’s “G.I. Joe Retaliation,” we have no idea how he’s going to find the time to blow so many things up with so much on his roster.
With “Fast Six” set to shoot this May, we’re guessing this could be a ways off along with Johnson’s other prospective projects, but personally this writer can’t wait.
