Outside of "Mad Max: Fury Road" and "San Andreas," it hasn’t been a great year for Warner Bros. "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." and "Vacation" both fizzled, "Magic Mike XXL" underperformed, and I bet you even forgot about the cheapie horror "The Gallows," and the flag waving family film "Max." And then there is the added embarrassment of being the studio that put "Straight Outta Compton" into turnaround only to see it become a massive hit for Universal. But things might’ve been a bit different on the bottom line had "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" been released as originally planned on July 17th instead of next spring. But WB exec CEO Kevin Tsujihara stands by the decision to wait to deliver Zack Snyder‘s superhero blockbuster.
"It was a tough decision at the time because it was going to create a hole in 2015," he said. "But it was absolutely the right decision for the franchise, for DC and the movie. Having seen the movie multiple times, and again last night, I’m extremely confident it was the right decision to make the movie better. And it’s so important for the studio to get the foundation right on DC.”
And Tsujihara has a point. There is a lot riding on this movie and franchise, and as I opined recently, while early word on ‘Batman v Superman’ has been ecstatic, let’s not pretend that Snyder and WB will be tinkering and testing and tweaking the tentpole for maximum profitability in the months ahead.
**SORT OF SPOILERS AHEAD** Meanwhile, Michael Shannon is in ‘Dawn Of Justice’ in some capacity, and it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out because last time I checked, General Zod died in "Man Of Steel." Anyway, there is speculation that he’s going to wind up as Doomsday, but in a recent anecdote he told Vulture, he reveals that his costume has some rather interesting appendages.
“I was in my costume, and I couldn’t use my fingers because in the sequel I have flippers instead of hands. So I had these wax flippers on my fingers, and I couldn’t open the door, and I could hear Zack [Snyder, the director] being like, ‘Where’s Shannon? Where the fuck is he?’ and the whole crew was standing around. I was like, knocking on the door with my flippers, ‘Let me out of here!’” he said.
Flippers? Maybe he’s Aquaman’s Dad? I dunno, but the most logical explanation is that he’s wearing some weird gloves so that his hands can be CGI enhanced later. Guess we’ll find out what it all adds up to on March 25, 2016
