Warner Bros. Swings Around The Pole For Steven Soderbergh's 'Magic Mike'

Joe Manganiello Reveals Character Costumes For Some Of The Strippers In The Movie

Steven Soderbergh and Warner Bros. have had a long and mostly fruitful relationship for much of the director’s career. Of course, right now they are doing very well with “Contagion,” which as taken in over $75 million so far, and that’s with international territories only starting to open now. And over the years WB has housed variety of Soderbergh’s films both big and small, including the “Ocean’s Eleven” trilogy, “The Good German” and “The Informant!” and they are also behind the developing “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” And with lensing well underway on the indie-financed, low-budget male stripper pic “Magic Mike,” it looks like the suits over at the studio are willing to roll the dice on the movie that was initially perceived as a hard sell for major shingles.

Deadline reports that the studio is in the lead to take home the U.S. distribution rights in a deal that is still coming together. While the subject matter may be a bit off the beaten the path, the big slabs of man meat should make “Magic Mike” a marketing no brainer. Starring another massive ensemble including Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer and Joe Manganiello along with Gabriel Igelsias, Olivia Munn, Riley Keough, Betsy Brandt, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Cody Horn, the film penned by Reid Carolin follows an experienced stripper (Tatum) who teaches a younger dancer (Pettyfer) how to hustle his wares on stage and off at the exotic club Xquisite, run by Dallas (McConaughey). You probably knew that already, but what you don’t know are the on-stage personas of some of the strippers in the movie. Until now.

Vulture has rounded up comments made by a very chatty Joe Manganiello to a variety of outlets, summarizing the various fantasies that women will have played out for them onscreen in the upcoming movie. “Everybody kinda does their own thing,” he said. “Big sexy Kevin Nash has his Tarzan thing, I’ve got my fireman thing, Matt Bomer’s got a doctor thing going on, Adam Rodriguez does a Latino lover bit.” But even though his own character is named Big Dick Richie, he’s not going full dong.

“You are going to see a surprising amount. Shocking amount, actually,” he said. “No full frontal! But [my character’s] name is Big Dick Richie for a reason.” We guess we’ll have to leave it to our imagination.
