On paper, “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” sounds like a no-brainer. A magician send-up starring Steve Carell, Jim Carrey and Steve Buscemi? Where do I sign up, right? But when the first trailer for the movie dropped last December, it left a lot to be desired. Now, with its release date two weeks away, Warner Bros has premiered 10 new clips online, giving us more of a taste of what to expect from the magician comedy.
The film follows the successful Las Vegas act Burt Wonderstone (Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Buscemi) whose popularity is threatened by rising Criss Angel-like star Steve Gray (Jim Carrey). Wonderstone and his partner subsequently decide to switch things up, not wanting to live under Steve Gray’s shadow. Judging from the clips and the trailer, it’s nice to see Jim Carrey really having fun with his role. Overall the clips are a bit of a mixed bag but they definitely show more promise than what the first trailer suggested.
Funny to think that ten years ago it was Steve Carell who had the breakout supporting performance in “Bruce Almighty,” which starred Jim Carrey, and now it looks like the tables have turned with Carrey supporting Steve Carell. “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” comes out March 15th. Hopefully the ten clips don’t reveal all of the film’s best jokes. Watch them below. [Collider]
