It’s Tuesday, which means it’s time for you to pick up the latest releases on DVD and Blu-ray. While you could just pick up the latest blockbuster—“World War Z,” in this case—the stylish, though divisive, eco-terrorist thriller “The East” would be a more worthwhile purchase. And if you haven’t seen the movie, you might want to skip this part—a look at the alternate endings (via Thompson On Hollywood) from the Zal Batmanglij-helmed film arrived online that show the different paths the film could have taken.
Starring Brit Marling (who shares screenwriting credit with Batmanglij), the film follows her as a private intelligence officer who infiltrates the eco-anarchist group, the titular East, led by Alexander Skarsgård and Ellen Page. As Marling gets deeper into the group, she begins to lose sight of her mission and starts questioning her employer’s motives.
While one of the two alternate endings leave things a little more ambiguous, the other brings the focus back to the relationship between Marling and Skarsgård. Watch both endings below and pick up “The East” on Blu-ray or DVD today. Or we’ll do you one better: we’ve got a few copies of “The East” on Blu-ray to give away to some lucky readers.
