Neil LaBute is back. Kind of. The writer/director who came storming out of the gate with his acidic takes on the relationship between men and women in films like “In The Company Of Men” and “Your Friends & Neighbors” has strayed from that kind of material in recent years, doing things as disparate as the thin race relations thriller “Lakeview Terrance” and the broad comedy “Death At A Funeral.” But some new material penned by LaBute is being brought to the big screen in the form of “Some Girl(s)” and two clips have arrived.
Adam Brody leads the movie, playing a writer, who on the eve of his wedding searches out his ex-girlfriends to reconcile his past relationships. He’ll be meeting up with a bevy of beauties, but in these two clips we see him chat with a slinky Mia Maestro and the always excellent Emily Watson. “Party Girl” helmer Daisy von Scherler Mayer gets behind the camera for this one. Based on his play, Neil LaBute’s script follows a successful writer (Adam Brody) who, on the eve of his wedding, travels across the country to meet up with ex-lovers in an attempt to make amends for past relationship transgressions. Crisscrossing from Seattle to Boston, he reunites with high school sweetheart Sam (Jennifer Morrison), sexually free-spirited Tyler (Mía Maestro), married college professor Lindsay (Emily Watson), his best friend’s little sister Reggie (Zoe Kazan), and “the one that got away” Bobbi (Kristen Bell). Daisy von Scherler Mayer (“Party Girl”) directs this journey of a modern-day Candide stumbling through a landscape familiar to most men – messy breakups.
Zoe Kazan and Jennifer Morrison are among those rounding out the cast. “Some Girl(s)” premieres at SXSW on March 8th, but there’s no distributor on board just yet. Watch below. [Indiewire/Deadline]
