Him? Chris Pratt as the next big thing doesn’t really look like such a gamble anymore, though certainly when his casting announcements were made way back when, pundits were scratching their heads. But the lumpy comedian has transformed into muscle-bound, handsome leading man of late. He took off as the lead voice role in “The LEGO Movie” and he sure looks like he’s got the proper swagger for “Guardians Of The Galaxy.” If that movie is a hit, and it looks like it will be, Universal’s gonna be sittin’ pretty for summer 2015 when new superstar Chris Pratt leads their “Jurassic Park” reboot/sequel, “Jurassic World.”
It’s been a bit of a bold gamble all around, but it’s starting to make more sense as it becomes far less abstract. Colin Trevorrow was a bit of an unknown x-factor as the director, having only helmed the indie “Safety Not Guaranteed,” but clearly his pitches convinced the studio. That and the fact that studios now realize, just give the person with a clear distinct vision the job and they can make it happen with all the right, most experienced help at their side (still, you have to tip your cap a little to Universal for seeing past the “what, only one small indie film under his belt?” old-school thinking).
“Jurassic World” stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Nick Robinson, Ty Simpkins, Omar Sy, Jake Johnson, Judy Greer, Irrfan Khan, Andy Buckley, plus original ‘”Jurassic Park” actor B.D. Wong. Vincent D’Onofrio will play the film’s villain. Michael Giacchino will compose the score and the movie will go worldwide on June 12, 2015, undoubtedly hoping to launch yet another new big trilogy and return the franchise to its former glories. It will be interesting to see if Trevorrow can nail it because frankly, all his comments thus far are salient ones and exactly what fans want to hear. Two new behind-the-scenes clips have been unveiled by "Today," so watch below.
