Not everyone is feeling a lot of joy for "Joy." The first wave of reviews have rolled in for David O. Russell‘s Oscar contender, and they have been decidedly mixed, but our Rodrigo Perez came out on the more positive side of the spectrum. He said in his review that the Jennifer Lawrence-starring film is "painfully funny, engaging and full of relatable heartache" and is "bold and vibrantly told in ways that always cuts close to the heart of human vulnerability." So yes, it’s another wild dervish of emotions from Russell, but if you let it wash over you, it’s a powerful concoction.
