We’ve really been digging the trailers so far for the Guillermo Del Toro produced “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark,” and while reviews have been mixed from the Los Angeles Film Festival this weekend where it played, we’re keeping the flame alive that this will be worth some genuine chills.
Directed by Troy Nixey and starring Guy Pearce, Katie Holmes and Bailee Madison, the film—a remake of a 1973 TV movie—centers on a family who moves into a derelict house, only to experience the unveiling of some terrifying creatures. FilmDistrict has dropped three clips from the movie and they all seem to be sticking in the same tenor as the trailers, with a focus more on atmosphere than on cheap scares. The clips are centered around the young girl discovering what the new house has in store, including a groundskeeper and creepy garden seemingly taken right out of “The Shining.” But this does look pretty well shot, with a measured pace but again, early word has been uneven.
“Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” opens on August 12th. Check out the clips below along with a number of new images from the movie.
