We here at The Playlist have always paid as much attention to the people lensing our favorite movies, to those directing our favorite movies. Cinematography is a craft that is increasingly getting more respect (check out our On The Rise 2013 and On The Rise 2014 features), with even some name brand practitioners — Roger Deakins, Emmanuel Lubezki, etc. — and the last twelve months have seen those two and more create some of the most stirring moments at the movies.
Jacob T. Swinney has compiled a quick three minute look at the Best Cinematography Of 2014. Scored to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross‘ "Sugar Storm" from "Gone Girl," this is great look at the movies big and small, that had some arresting visual moments. And the decision to keep the focus on the sequences and not the dialogue or sound is a smart one, allowing the eye to really take in how these frames were captured and constructed. So sit back, and take a look below. [35MM]
