After a summer in which horror offerings like “The Possession” and “The Apparition” limped into theaters before lackluster reviews, the Robert Cargill-penned indie “Sinister” has slowly but surely emerged as one of this fall's most interesting releases, and now there are three new clips to cement that perception further.
First screening earlier this year at SXSW to fantastic buzz, the Scott Derrickson (“Exorcism of Emily Rose”) film has slowly turned heads with its clever promotion and quietly disturbing trailers, the last of which premiered last week via a red-band peek. These new clips go further in showcasing some of the film's eerier moments, which revolve around a true crime novelist (Ethan Hawke) as he investigates uncovered home videos with increasingly disturbing results. The clips give off a definite sense of dread that has us ready to see more.
Our reviewer at SXSW definitely confirmed the flick's potential, describing it as “chilling and compelling in many of the best possible ways” while still lacking resonance overall. See for yourself when “Sinister” is released on October 12th. [Shock 'Til You Drop]
