So “Inception” is only ten days or so from release at this point, but what if you’re not sold on Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending sci-fi actioner? What else will be in theaters that weekend? If only there was some kind of “Harry Potter” knock-off, from the team behind “National Treasure: Book of Secrets”…
Well, you’re in luck! Disney’s “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” opens next Wednesday, and a five-minute clip from the opening of the film has debuted over at Yahoo. It features the younger version of Jay Baruchel’s character (played by a child actor who somehow manages to be even more irritating than Baruchel) being picked out as an apprentice by Cage, and then accidentally unleashing his rival, played by Alfred Molina.
It actually looks not terrible, in a kids fantasy movie kind of way; there’s some inventive stuff in the clip, and in the latest step in the rehabilitation of Nic Cage, he looks remarkably restrained in a role that only a few years ago would have probably resulted in an unbearable performance. The picture’s apparently tracking poorly, even worse than the disappointing “Prince of Persia,” but with a PG rating, it should have some legs. Watch the clip below, or head over to Yahoo to see it in HD.
