Like it or hate it, “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” smashed into theaters last week and destroyed a whole boatload of box office records in the process. Savagely received by critics, the film more or less landed with fanboys and girls (though it’s garnered a rough B Cinemascore), unleashing a torrent of criticism toward film criticism and reflection on the blockbuster culture that merely asks that filmmakers not fuck up the properties people already love.
‘Batman v Superman’ has also managed to raise the question: who do comic book movies need to please? Zack Snyder has been adamant in his press rounds that he made the film as faithfully as he could as a true fan of the comics. Critics and audiences less familiar with the source material seem to have found the film wanting, but ardent fans appear to have discovered something to love in the hero-heavy and easter egg-laden film.
But if you have FOMO, fear not! Because if you are anything at all like this writer and not terribly savvy of the rather rich DC lore packed throughout the film, a new video is here from Mr Sunday Movies to run down all the easter eggs, cameos, and references Snyder and co. snuck into ‘Batman v Superman.’ And whether or not you enjoyed the meandering, loud, and bloated film, there is still something strangely fun and compelling about the mythology and texture of the universe — which they can hopefully capture next time around. Warning: there are, obviously, spoilers throughout!
