Watch: A Deleted Scene From 'True Detective'; Rust & Laurie Break-Up

True Detective

Let’s face it: you’re in “True Detective” withdrawal. You’ve watched the show once, watched it twice and you’re all out of internet theories and clues to look for. You don’t know what to do. Your head is not screwed on straight. You’re thinking human consciousness is a tragic misstep in evolution. You’re worried that you’re absorbing dread with this self-fulfilling narrative of denial. You’re hoping and wishing for some sort of catharsis, but you realize “True Detective” is a virus that has rewritten the pathways to your brain and has dulled critical thinking. You’ve even possibly felt violated and let down by the ending and rewatched the show yet again to sidestep reality and tell yourself an alternate story of the psychosphere. Not gonna happen.

You’re kind of fucked now that the “adventures” of Detective Rustin Cohle and Detective Martin Hart are over. Your field guide to weird fiction is useless and if you had some expectation of divine reward for your wild theories, well, brother, you might just be a piece of sh*t.

But minor salvation for you here. HBO has released a deleted scene and it’s probably one you don’t expect: the relationship between Cohle and Laurie (Elizabeth Reaser), the Detective’s girlfriend in the early-mids section where everything was kosher between both detectives. In the scene they’re fighting fighting about his “philosophies,” namely his choice to not have kids.

So drink this one in while you can. Presumably, you’re hoping for a DVD and a whole lot more of deleted scenes, extras, explanation and other tidbits to soothe your soul. Watch below.
