Some of you have already seen it playing in front of "The Dark Knight Rises" this weekend, but one of two different teaser trailers for Warner Bros' next great superhero hope, "Man Of Steel," has just made its way online, via Yahoo. And those who've come to expect a certain kind of stylized, action-heavy kind of film from director Zack Snyder, the man behind "300" and "Sucker Punch," or even those who saw, legally or illegally, the Comic-Con teaser debuted last weekend, will find that the clip isn't quite what you were expecting.
One final flying shot aside, no action or SFX elements are showcased, with the film instead focusing on Clark Kent (Henry Cavill)'s journeys out in the world, including time spent, Benjamin Button-style, working on a fishing boat, as well as glimpses of a photo of young Clark with his father (Kevin Costner), and the Kansas farm where he grew up. The much-talked-about Terrence Malick-like style is firmly in evidence, but footage of set pieces, or other cast members like Amy Adams, as Lois Lane, or Michael Shannon, as General Zod, is nowhere to be found.
So while we're a little baffled by the approach the teaser takes, it is after all, a teaser, in theaters just under a year before the film hits theaters, and as such, it's there more to give the Christopher Nolan-approved stamp on the film, and to demonstrate to some that this isn't going to be a Zack Snyder speed-ramp fest. And as such, consider us teased.
There's also an alternate version of the teaser doing the round (Update: which is now online via MSN, and which you can also watch below), which replaces the Costner voiceover you can hear in the clip below by one by Russell Crowe, who plays Superman's father Jor-El. The text of the Crowe version, courtesy of /Film; for full effect, reads "You will give the people an ideal to strive towards. They will race behind you, they will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun. In time you will help them accomplish wonders.”
"Man Of Steel" hits theaters on June 14th, 2013.
