Traditionally, the musical performances at the Oscars have been the bathroom break you need when you have to go but missed the last set of commercials. But this year, even if the rest of the show was dull as rocks, the musical performances were actually halfway decent to pretty damn good, and worth watching. Well, mostly.
Having Adam Levine sing a schmaltzy, overrated song, from a movie no one remembers in the first twenty minutes of the show was one of the more ill-conceived decisions of the night. And let’s not speak about that Tim McGraw performance. But, "Everything Is Awesome" was pretty damn uh, awesome, and Lady Gaga was fine, even though I’m still wondering why anyone needed that much time focused on "The Sound Of Music." And of course, John Legend and Common stole the evening with their tremendous performance of "Glory" that broke the color barrier of man tears.
