You’re either going to love or hate this concept, but the recent posters from “Pixels” — that feature Donkey Kong, Frogger, Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Centipede characters — promise a potentially fun, high-concept throwback treat. Directed by Chris Columbus ("Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone," "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief"), “Pixels” is a 3D live-action/computer-animated comedy film that Sony is releasing next summer (presuming North Korea doesn’t terrorize the studio out of business).
Starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Monaghan, Brian Cox, Ashley Benson, and Jane Krakowski. The movie is about aliens who misinterpret feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war. They attack Earth using the games as models for their various assaults and so the U.S. government enlists three former 1980s video game champions (Sandler, Gad and Dinklage) to fend off the space invaders (Monaghan plays a weapons specialist for the military and Sandler’s love interest).
Sony employees may not love recent Adam Sandler films, and while this is a Happy Madison Production, it also seems like something very different for the comedian too. Due in theaters July 24, 2015, the first trailer for "Pixels" has arrived. Check it out below and let us know if you think Sandler is taking a new turn or just doing the same ol’, same ol with a twist.
