We have to admit, the premise of "Sinister" kind of put us off from the start. The story centers on a novelist who moves into a home where a family was recently murdered and discovers home video footage that might reveal exactly what happened to them. Toss in director Scott Derrickson ("The Exorcism Of Emily Rose," "The Day The Earth Stood Still") and a not so inspiring cast led by Ethan Hawke and….yawn, right? Well, guess again.
After a surprise screening at SXSW earlier this year, buzz has been building steadily around the pic, and this new red band trailer is pretty hair-raising. Not exactly filled with boobs or blood, this one earns its color rating due to some truly disturbing imagery (the last shot is a real kicker) and a pretty intense atmosphere of dread. And while our man is Austin liked the picture, but wished it had a bit more resonance, others at The Playlist who have checked it out have come back with the enthusiasm for the movie. Even this writer who isn't the world's biggest horror buff has put "Sinister" on the radar after giving this trailer a spin.
"Sinister" will scare you silly on October 12th. Watch below.
