Marvel, Marvel, Marvel! The studio is on everyone’s lips these days. So another day, another actor who wants to work with Marvel (recent names include Orlando Bloom and Shailene Woodley). Most recently, Al Pacino revealed he met with the comic book studio. The actor has already been fairly vocal about his admiration for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially “Guardians Of The Galaxy”, and this week he’s teased a possible role in one of their films. He doesn’t say anything too concrete, but any guesses? Either way, it’s clear he and Kevin Feige have talked. You can listen to the full conversation from the Happy/Sad podcast below, plus hear Woodley and Bloom’s thoughts on being part of the Marvel family (Woodley: “Hell yes!” Bloom: “I wouldn’t object to it,” essentially).
Meanwhile, is one Marvel cast member unhappy? Unsubstantiated speculation swirled that Idris Elba was unhappy with his Marvel contract after he threw a little shade at their kind of filmmaking in an interview bemoaning shooting “Thor: Dark World” pick-ups after playing Nelson Mandela. But as you might imagine, that conjecture is a big leap.
"I don’t know where people got that, man," Elba explained to the Daily Beast this week. "I was quite specifically talking about the comparison between playing Heimdall on one day, and playing Mandela on the next. That’s sloppy journalism, or just really bad misquoting. I have a great relationship with the Marvel team, and the character of Heimdall. People are really running with this thing like, ‘Oh my God, he doesn’t want to be with Marvel anymore.’ People thinking that comparing those roles means I don’t want to be with Marvel, well, that’s crazy.” Well, there you have it.
Lastly, “Guardians Of The Galaxy” Blu-ray goodies keep coming out. The latest is a behind-the-scenes featurette teasing the making of “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” For good measure, Robert Downey Jr. also shared this silly, but amusing viral clip some fan made of The Avengers singing Christmas carols.
