Though it’s only open in a few theaters in Los Angeles and New York City, this weekend sees David Lowery’s gorgeous “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints” expand across the country and hit VOD. Yesterday brought a graphic novel prologue and today brings something equally delightful and cool: a short behind-the-scenes doc shot by the Ross Brothers of “45365” and “Tchoupitoulas” fame (courtesy of Film.com).
Running just over thirteen minutes, the short documentary falls in line with the Ross’ previous work with no talking heads and a focus on the seemingly mundane but oddly beautiful. You get to see Casey Affleck between takes, Bradford Young lighting a scene and stunts being worked out. If you’ve got time to spare and you’re looking to whet your appetite, check out the doc below.
And if you still need some more “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints,” the Film Society of Lincoln Center has dropped the latest entry in their Summer Talks series with the film’s writer and director Lowery. The freewheeling conversation sees Lowery touch on why editing is his favorite part of the filmmaking process and how the actors surprised him, among other topics. There are also a few clips embedded in the talk, if you’re looking to get a little more taste of the film. Check it out below along with the behind-the-scenes doc.
