"People were shrieking, screaming, laughing, and generally going ape," we reported from the floor of the New York Comic Con this weekend. And while that may be true before and after the trailer for the "Evil Dead" remake, during it you could hear a pin drop as fans waited to see if Sam Raimi had delivered something worthy of his original more than three decades ago. And judging by the crowd's reaction, this may be a winner.
Certainly, this very red band NSFW footage (mostly for some swearing and buckets of blood) doesn't hold back on the red stuff. It's a teaser in every sense in that there's not much delivered in the way of plot, but instead we get the general gist: freaky book, cabin the woods, shit gets very fucking real. This clearly won't be a PG-13 retread, and if you need to be convinced, the final shot of a character splitting their tongue in an act of self-mutilation that closes out the teaser will get the job done. And as for lead Jane Levy, it's definitely a huge left turn for anyone used to seeing her on "Suburgatory."
With last night's arrival of the "Carrie" teaser, both cult horror remakes are out of the gate. Which do you prefer? Or are they both good or bad? Weigh in below. "Evil Dead" rises on April 12th. [We Got This Covered]
