While we’ll allow the mental leap of a single man’s sperm donation(s) resulting in fathering 533 children, for the sake of a comedy premise, does it result in something good? Canadians gave a thumbs up the French language “Starbuck,” and that’s film’s co-writer and director Ken Scott was brought in to helm the remake, “Delivery Man.” Yes, it’s another Vince Vaughn everyman movie, but can he rebound from the tepid “The Internship“?
Well, perhaps comparing them isn’t fair. While the summer comedy was basically “Old School: Google Graduates” (with a tamer PG-13 rating), “Delivery Man” is aiming for the heart as well as the funny bone. You see, Vaughn’s character is a fuck up trying to do something right with this life, and sees an opportunity by becoming a guardian angel of sorts to this next extended family. Certainly, Vaughn is trying on some different dramatic flavors here, rather than his regular routing of charming, motor-mouthed asshat. But this also looks sickly sweet and not particularly funny either.
Anyway, we’ll see. Chris Pratt and Cobie Smulders co-star and this hits theaters on November 22nd. Watch below.
